Fantastic guys. Real deal as a black belt karate guy..over 30 years its Never let me down. What i can see is what I always thought was missing from the training. For it to work you have to change your way of thinking. Be the attacker . Not the pray. In an instant. That's why i hate the word defence. That mentality makes you the hunted . Not the killer. I salute you . UK

That real mixing of martial arts depends upon the situation and application have now managed to incorporate that into action, how then can you apply that in science in utilizing different science wisdom into its appropriate application because when the likes of Ebony Maw a G-type powerful group member of Thanos appear with mind over matter hurling things of whatever then the know how of science things shall apply to that, also the microbeing to a giant being transformation of the Antman as an example only or the liquid Mercury penetration into solid or narrow objects of the new model Cyborg Terminator or the Weather command of Shtorm of the X-men member as example only if they will appear or not in the Endtime battle shall be the Ultimate Peak of Warriors weaponries and Wisdom battle.

I like the change in karate concept, when it came from long distance fight, one-punch and jumping *thing* to close combat, using elbows, knees, throwing, choking, groin attacks, more often seen in street situations. I was in couple of that situations, mostly get robbed from money, one time I had to run for my life probably. I know what I'm talking about. And this REALISTIC concept is shown in Okinawan karate styles. I'm practicing Shorin-Ryu karate right now, so I know, what I'm talking about also. Great video, great skills, I know how long it takes to learn how to use katas, not mentioning of mastering it.

People forget what Kata is, it's a way to pass down a system (similar to books, videos but for the ancients), now they focus too much on making the moves look beautiful and don't train nearly enough Bunkai, the focus should be 100% on Bunkai, we all have youtube to pass down whatever system we want, no need to memorize a long sequence of moves (kata), use them, engrave them into your brain and muscle!!!

I've saved myself from bad fall more from kata training breakfalls and dive rolls, more than needing it in self defense against antagonisist . Recollected walking down steep icy steps out in front of my cabin one winter , slipped backwards, I slapped both iron handrails with a break fall method " even a Kia " so hard I got shot off forward, slid so fast I got spun around when my feet hit the ground , ended up in cat stance , no one but the yotes and local Ravens saw it .. another time , while working as a groundsman , dropping a chunk a trunk " elm " from over 20 feet up , I was on the ground , holding the line , climber cut way to large a section , way bigger than me with a big elbow .. when it dropped , I sat into the weight " horse stance , it swung towards me , I dodged, swung back , dodged again , then flew off the line " loved so much it landed ontop the neighbors car he refused to move ! Haa Ass hat !" .. when the log flew off , I flew back well over 8 feet in the air , ended up somehow just arching my body like a rocking chair , never even slapped the ground " I had just walked away from training in Akido, due the fact it didn't feel like training , more like give me your hand and I'll do this to you " well .. kinda lernt sumthin more than I realized there . I agree , kata , training , visualization . Very important! I'm a visual thinker . Focused more on wood carving now than Matt time ,but it's still relevant...like to joke that Kung Fu falling , has saved me more times than Kung Fu fighting , yadayada , potato , pomdeterre ..

Your Bunkai is the kind of bunkai i use as a second level from the three level of bunkais, starting with kihon Bunkai. TO be honest I really like it very much. But i was always a radical defender of the pure techniques only shown in the kata, without adding techniques. Its so rich even if its just a basic kata. Hugs from Spain ♥ and I sub!

Kata is too much overrated! Nobody can learn to fight training kata. It has some benefits but the idea if you repeat too much a kata it will make you capable of utilizing its techniques in fighting is absurd.

My only issue with kata when I see these ridiculous age discrepancies with these babies that are like secondary black belts. And they don’t compete in any tournaments so they know forms, but they can’t apply their skills to true combat competition. I came in as an orange belt and because I used to kick box I was laying out all kinds of upper rank belts. I thought it was because I was more skilled, but it wasn’t. It was just because I had actually had an immersive balance training. I think the beauty of the form is important for technique, but I think you have to have sparring or some kind of physical engagement beyond just the forms and transitions.

people (a lot of karatekas first) underrate the importance of kata. As a mma fighter who comes from traditional shotokan karate i see katas as an old school method to learn techniques and develop automatisms and balance, just like shadow boxing, shadow wrestling and shadow bjj. i think all martial arts converge in a single point: effectiveness, that's why we see the same techniques, with little style variations in different martial arts, when a technique works, soon or later someone will discover it, because fighting is science and every technique is developed studying the physics and biomechanics of the human body. Look at the similarities between some throws in judo and greco-roman wrestling, for example the Seoi Nage and the arm throw: they are the very same technique, but in judo is adapted considering the Gi, while in wrestling is adapted in a no-gi context. In mma all those styles blend together and no style precludes the use of another's techniques. A funny thing is that if you wear a karate gi and start to do muay thai, taekwondo, savate, sanda, kick boxing, vovinam and even boxing techniques, it would always plausibly look like karate.

One of the most important karate lessons - condition yourself and take the hits and kicks that aren’t going to knock you out, so you don’t fall into the opponent’s tricks, and by doing so, gain the right timing and distance for your attacks. Thank you.
